During low-speed operation,the self-reversing screw drive system may exhibit stick-slip motion—characterized by intermittent movement and uneven speed—which affects positioning accuracy and motion stability.


Causes And Solutions for Stick-Slip Motion in Self-Reversing Screws Operation


Main Causes and Solutions:

  • Poor Lubrication

Cause: Insufficient or degraded lubricant.

Solution: Clean regularly and replenish with dedicated screw grease (recommended: ISO VG68 grade oil).


  • Improper Preload

Cause: Preload too high or too low.

Solution: Re-adjust preload to the standard value (typically 5–10% of the rated dynamic load).


  • Assembly Issues

Cause: Excessive parallelism deviation between the screw and guide rails.

Solution: Inspect with a laser interferometer and realign (parallelism ≤ 0.02 mm/m).


  • Drive System Problems

Cause: Improper servo motor parameter settings.

Solution: Optimize servo gain parameters,especially speed loop gain.


  • Mechanical Wear

Cause: Wear of balls or raceways.

Solution: Inspect the recirculation channel for wear; replace the entire self-reversing screw assembly if necessary.


  • Preventive Measures

Implement a regular maintenance schedule (recommended: inspection every 2,000 operating hours).

Use high-quality dust protection devices (minimum IP54 rating).

Avoid prolonged operation at maximum rotational speed.


Note: For precision applications,installing a temperature compensation system is recommended to mitigate thermal deformation effects.
